Yesterday on our way home from the island my husband and I stopped at a drugstore. We each needed something and met back at the cash register. As we stood in line both of us could easily see an elaborate display of Valentine’s Day cards. Knowing that Valentine’s Day was just around the corner, we should have bought each other a card, but neither of us gave it a thought. However, once we were back in the car, I mentioned our blunder and attempted to strike a deal with him. If he didn’t buy me a card, I wouldn’t buy him one. But now in retrospect I wonder if that was a good idea because my hunch is that he will buy me a card. Meaning I go buy one just in case?
Later in the day he asked me if I wanted chocolates for Valentine’s Day and I said, “No,” because I always keep a stash of my favorite chocolate bars. I wonder if I should have asked him if he wanted something. Do you think he will keep his promise not to buy me a card?
With the month of February unfolding spring is growing nearer. I am so ready for spring!
My husband is one of those great guys who buys me flowers randomly; it’s always a treat to receive them for no particular reason. I’d love a pot of spring bloomers such as tulips or daffodils, but I don’t want to cramp his style. Last week he brought me lovely African violets and I love them.

As a Valentine’s Day gift to one lucky person, I am offering a $100 Amazon Gift Card and one of my signed books. Winner has three days to respond. US and Canada only.

I love Valentine’s Day being not money my gift is a roof and food on the table
A lovely thought, Karen!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
So lovely that you and your husband still celebrate or think about it. This year I will be getting ready to go to Oregon for almost a month. My daughter and her partner are getting married on 02/22/2022 at 2:22 p.m. and then a week later one of the girls has to have surgery so they want “mommy” to stay on for moral support. The wedding is my Valentine’s celebration. You are sweet to do this contest. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your husband and a hug for Piper.
I hope you enjoy Oregon and the wedding! A lovely Valentines Day celebration.

Thank you so much!
Im sure we’ve all had those times/ years when things were “lean” but we kept going on and the little things really have turned out to be the most memorable and heartfelt…..two things I’d like to share…..One day while in a store, my husband was looking for a card…when I went over….he showed me the card he picked out….I said how nice it was….we agreed on it and he put it back….I was ok with it…haha then another time….it was soon to be Valentines Day and I also needed a bathing suit….(yes in SOUTH Florida you can use a suit in “regular winter months” …so he gave me a bathing suit AND two mounds bars….I looked at him…(didnt need a big box of candy) he said “well it IS a candy holiday”….we are married 49 years and still LOVE those little meaningful moments and times….
Thanks for sharing your delightful story with me!
I love your books. We usually just go out for a meal on Valentine’s day.

I do enjoy a Valentine’s Day card. Thank you for this opportunity to win! Happy Valentine’s Day. You may want to buy your hubby a card!
We don’t buy each other big gifts! But we usually do share a dinner out! This year, due to recent high Covid numbers, we will buy a. TakeOut meal and eat at home. We also made the deal last year, no cards, and hubby kept to the rule. This year we ordered a cake and will take it to my daughters to share with the grandchildren and give them some little goodies.
It is lovely that you receive flowers at random times. My husband and I every year go out for a nice meal and exchange cards on Valentine’s Day, no gifts. Cards are important to him and I respect that. I do enjoy reading his cards, he doesn’t just sign his name, he puts a lot of thought into them. It seems that everyone has a different way to celebrate the date, whatever works. The best thing for us was to communicate and find out what truly is important for the other one. Happy Valentine’s Day!
A nice dinner out is nice
We usually have dinner out at one of our favorite places. My husband is a flower giver and never misses an occasion.
Thanks for the cance to win one of your books! I always enjoy them!
2/13/2022 is my 53th wedding anniversary and we gave up buying presents long ago. the little things my husband does for me daily are so much more than something once a year.
I’d say get a card. It’s better to be ready.
I collect Teddy bears, 3 years ago I was in rehab after going through emergency surgery, hubby usually doesn’t get me anything. If I want a gift, I have to buy it myself, well, Feb 14th, hubby walked into my room with a medium large Gray teddy bear, a $1 box of chocolates and a card. I was totally surprised. And of course, I didn’t get him anything. From that Valentine’s Day, I have gotten another bear which is a tye dye one, They sit in the back seat of our SUV and hold hands. I already have the next bears, Mr and Mrs Bear are having twins this year, a boy and a girl.
I love a good Amish book, awesome giveaway thank
I believe if you agreed to no cards, you should stick to it. Otherwise, you will never know what to do in years to come. If he gets you one this year and you don’t get him one, then he will realize that you were serious and will follow suit from now on. You do realize he is probably reading all these comments. 🙂 Sounds like your husband doesn’t need a special day to buy things for you. Hope you both have a fun and romantic Valentine’s Day Monday.
Cool story! I hope you guys have a great valentine’s day! For now I will keep buying myself chocolate and reading books haha! I entered your giveaway and I’m on your mailing list and following you! Love your work!!
My husband buys me a couple of carnations with baby’s breath for Valentine’s Day. I told him years ago to only buy one or two. We will be married 51 years in April. Thanks for the chance to win.
My husband and I aren’t giving each other gifts this Valentine’s Day. Our daughter is getting married this coming October, so between that and his medical bills, it just isn’t a necessary this year. Besides, I just had a birthday on Feb 8th and he got me a few lovely gifts, including a potted hyacinth, my favorite flower.
Kate, I feel I know you. I have every one of your books on my nook.
I also cherish the picture of you and my son (Dr. Patrick Lowe ).
Thank you for a chance to win signed copies.
Love your books. Thanks for the chance to win one. I always tell my friends about great authors like you.
My hubby and I got married in August almost forty years ago. Each month on the 14th the first year we would cut a slice of cake from our top layer and on the 14th of February it dawned us that we had been married six months already.
We didn’t have any money so I made my husband a card using the Sunday comics that I got from my landlord.
I made my husband a card every year and one year I was so busy working and raising 2 babies that I just bought him a card from the store. When he opened that card his face looked so disappointed. I never bought a store card again. He gets a homemade one every year.
I suggest make your hubby a homemade card. You are great with words. Easy peasy.
My hubby buys me flowers when he sees something he likes and he states “it just because I love you”.
Thank you from writing your stories.
He will get you a card and candy
