Packing away my holiday decorations always gives me a sense of perspective and satisfaction. My tree ornaments have been acquired over the years, and each goes back into its own packaging. Some I’ve had since childhood, and some were favorites of my sons. I’ve kept the ornaments my husband and I found on our honeymoon: glass wreaths from Harrods in London. Each holds a memory and a connection to the many people I’ve been blessed to have in my life.
On January 1, I don’t make resolutions and never have. But I do journal most days, even when traveling or at our beach house. Out of my stream of conscious journaling in the morning, ideas and goals take shape. From writing, to gardening, to decluttering, to exercise, I figure any grandiose resolutions will fall by the wayside before the month is over, let alone the year.
Gardening will have to wait until after the snow melts!
I love to wake up on January 1 feeling good and rested. My husband and I set out on a walk to start the year off right. Do you have a New Year’s Day tradition?
Enter my giveaway for a chance to win a $100 amazon gift card and a copy of any of my books. Winner has three days to respond, US and Canada only. Good luck!
I love your books. My next to read is Stage Fright. So in From Rome with Love you took me to one of my favorite cities in my favorite country and in Stage Fright you take me home to where I was born and raised. Not to mention all the trips to Amish County in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Everything you write is a delight, a journey and an adventure.
I hope you enjoy it!
No more New Year’s traditions here. Used to spend time with family many years ago but as some family members are no longer with us the traditions died with them. It’s just the husband and myself. We always fall asleep before midnight on NYE but sometimes we wake up just in time to bring in the new year.
I was born on the East Coast so I can ring in the new year at 9 o’clock Pacific time!

First Happy New Year, I wish you and your family a Blessed Year.
I always like to take down my tree right after Christmas so that I can ring in the New Year with a clean slate. I don’t make resolutions as I have found that most of the time they go by the way side before long, instead I tend to say the same thing not only on New Year’s Eve but every day and that is to live every day to the best of my ability and to be the kind of person that would make my Mother, (God Bless her) proud of me. I also try to treat others as I wish to be treated.
Your daily “resolutions” sound far superior!
