Is the living easy in the summertime as the well-known song states? Is summer your favorite time of year or have you just about had it with the heat and have a case of the summertime blues?

What are the Dog Days of Summer, anyway?
Are you ready for autumn, which I admit is my favorite time of year? Love those changing leaves, but where I live rain accompanies it. We could use a good dowsing of rain (did I say that?) but once the clouds move in I know I’ll be complaining.
Enter to win ONE of TEN copies of A Letter from Lancaster County, coming straight from Harvest House Publishers, by leaving me a short comment.
Here’s my question: What is your favorite or least favorite part about the summer?
To receive a signed bookmark, please send me a self-addressed envelope at least 7″ long to Kate Lloyd, 2301 NE Blakeley Street #102,Seattle, WA 98105. If within the US, I’ll put on the stamp.
Because Harvest House is doing the sending, US only. Winners will be announced next Tuesday and must respond within three days. I’ll announce the winners on FB and send winners an email. Good luck!
Thanks for this awesome giveaway. Now to answer your question. I’m not much for humidity. Stay inside in the air conditioning to avoid it. I enjoy early summer when I can sit outside with a beverage and enjoy my flowers.
Has not been a good summer this year…your books make it easier to keep my faith. Love the stories you write!
Sorry to hear your summer has not gone well, Mary. Thanks for your kind words about my writing and for entering the giveaway!
Kate
so happy to find out I won your book…will send my address
Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway, Shirley! I can’t think of one person who enjoys humidity, but I’m probably wrong. Glad you have AC to give you relief!
Kate
My favorite part is fishing. Least favorite is the heat. But I try to make the best of it with my Lord’s help. He is my comfort.
If you know the Lord, life will be sweeter in any circumstance, Lana. Even a day without a single nibble. When young, I fished often with my father, or alone, in a nearby river (fly-fish only) yet I love every kind of fish, especially fresh wild salmon. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
Kate
I love summer! There is not much that bothers me about this season. I can say the only thing I really don’t like are all the bugs that seem to come out. Humidity does not bother me. I like a good summer thunderstorm, which we haven’t really had in NW Ohio.
You must be in heaven, Linda! I like a good thunderstorm too, however have had some close calls with lightning. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
I love hot steamy days that I can just float the day away in my pool. BBQ some burgers or dogs with Amish potato salad & a nice summer cocktail.
Ooh, a pool, Susan? Followed by a BBQ. Sounds as though you have made peace with hot steamy days. Would you do me a favor and message me the recipe for Amish potato salad? Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
Living in South Florida since 1995 I’ve become acclimated to the humidity and heat but very thankful for the air-conditioning in our home,in my church and the stores. How my husband lived all his adult life in Miami with no air-conditioning in his car and just window air-conditioning units in his house I will never know!
Your husband sounds like a rugged man, Pauline. The car part sounds unbearable. I’m glad you’re acclimated to the weather and also have AC. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
Kate
What an awesome giveaway! I do enjoy summer, but the older I get, the hotter it seems to get and I’m not a fan of the heat! I love fall! The colors, football, campfires, mountains, and cooler weather are calling my name!
The splendid fall colors and cooler weather are indeed gifts, especially after enduring a hot summer, Carole. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
Kate
Summer is as shining as winter is to smiling. I love all the seasons and am ready for each as it comes.
You have the perfect attitude, Betty. Each season has its charm and benefits. Thanks for writing and good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
We have had an awesome summer here in the Appalachian Mountains in eastern Kentucky with just a few really hot days. I would love, love, love to win one of your books!
So glad to hear you had an awesome summer, Mable! Thanks for writing with your good news and entering the giveaway!
Kate
What I like about summer is being outside. What I don’t like is that it goes too fast.
I can relate, Ruthann. I love being outside. Summer does seem to zip by quickly. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
My favorite part is the warmth of the sun and longer days! My least favorite parts is how fast it goes, mosquitoes, and ticks! 🙂
The sunshine and warmth is a blessing for those of us who don’t get it the rest of the year, Katie. Beware of ticks all year round; spring and fall are the worst times. A person can be infected with Lyme disease from a tick larva, which is very difficult to see. Worth googling and looking up on the Internet. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
My favorite part of summer is being able to enjoy the great outdoors..my least favorite is the heat and humidity.Love your books Kate!
I enjoy the outdoors too, Jackie. Unless too warm or cold, I would eat supper outside all year long, although my husband doesn’t quite agree with me … Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
The heat! I just take the heat along with my hot flashes. I can never wear my hair down cause I can’t take it being to hot, and I hate that. So yes looking forward to Fall!!
Hot and hotter, Melissa. Not a good combo. Fall is just around the corner … Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
Here in kentucky..it gets pretty humid during the summer . I’d rather have that instead of months and months of icy dark winters up north.
Proving there is no perfect place to live, Mary. People come to Seattle on a sunny day and think they’ve found perfection, until the clouds roll in and the rain comes down for months. Plus, Seattle is a sanctuary city … Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
What I enjoy about Summer is the glorious greenery that fills the forests, the perfumed flowers that God has created in such striking colors and the awesome rain storms.
You are enjoying the best of summer, Deanne! Yay! Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
My summer has been going pretty good, will be leaving on a vacation to Flordia to finish off my summer.
I’m glad you’ve been enjoying a good summer, Kathy. Sounds as if it’s only getting better. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
My least favorite part of the summer is the humidity. I love the warmer weather and after moving in 4 days I can go back to reading my books outside.
Oh my, moving is never fun, especially with high humidity, Shannon. Wishing you the best of luck while moving and in the giveaway!
Kate
My birthday is in July, so that would be a favorite. Also we get more time together as a family to make memories-camping, day adventures, and just being together.
My least favorite…having no AC and needing to be super creative with meals so I don’t hear the house up even more. (I know, first world problem, but it’s a truth).
Summers sound fun for you, Terressa. My husband used to say to our sons when they were young, “These are the good old days.” Of course, they would wince, but he was absolutely right. I’m glad you’re enjoying your family! Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
thanks for this wonderful give a way. The least favorite part of summer for me is sweating. Uggghhh. My most favorite part is spending outdoor time with family and friends, bbq’s, seeing the humming birds, butterflies and all the other of Gods creatures. Having all the plants, flowers and garden blooming.
I like your favorite things more than your least favorite, Lori. Thanks for entering the giveaway and good luck!
Kate
I am sorry, but summer is my least favorite time of year! Too hot, to humid, too hard to breathe! I will take fall over summer any day! The beautiful colors of fall, apple and pumpkin pie, apple butter, should I go on! No you sun lovers can have your summer, give me fall. Sweats, a cup of coffee, and my favorite book! One of Kate Lloyds that I would love to win, would be a great first book of fall!
No need to be sorry, Sandy. Many would agree with you. Suddenly, I have a craving for pumpkin pie … Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
Kate
Like all four seasons…but FALL is my favorite! Love seeings God’s paintbrush at work! Reminds me of visiting our Grandparents in WV & Pop-Pop would tell us all the names of the trees. Mom-Mom would tell us about the different berries & we’d go eat some of her jellies we helped make in the summer! Memories come in colors Thanks so much for the give away & Congratulations to whoever wins.
Thanks for your delightful comment, Brenda. I love to fly to where the colors are changing in autumn as we have many evergreen trees where I live. A few maples and the such change colors, but not the same vibrancy. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
I love summer, after a cold winter, but then, towards the end of summer, I’m ready for the crisp air of fall! 🙂
Pretty convenient how the seasons change, Lisa. I’m like you and welcome each new one. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
My favorite about summer is the long daylight hours, beautiful gardens and fresh fruits & veggies. My least favorite thing of summer is when a long heat wave
I also love fresh fruits and veggies, Myrtle, but our garden isn’t looking all that great. We need a good dowsing of rain. You just reminded me; I need to water our pots. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
I love summer time!! It’s fun to get out of the house and go fishing, camping and just go site seeing. Plus, all the fresh garden stuff starts to come on. Plus all the beautiful flowers are blooming. My favorite thing about summer is seeing all the hummingbirds at the feeders. Thanks for the chance to win!
I could watch hummingbirds at our feeder for hours, Paula. Since we don’t have much of a view, I joke that they are my view. Sounds like all sorts of fun things to do in the summer for you. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
I don’t like the heat and humidity. I like all the fresh produce, especially tomatoes.
I used to live with that heat and humidity in CT, Fern, but I don’t miss it one bit. Do love fresh tomatoes. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
I Love summer. I stayed a lot with my Grandparents on their farm in the summer. Summer brings a lot of memories for me of …helping with the gardens/canning, cooking, washing clothes on a ringer washer and hanging them on the line to dry, feeding/helping with the livestock. That is probably why I love reading Amish books…they remind me of how my Grandparents lived. We worked hard in the summer but I enjoyed every minute of it.
Fabulous, Donna. I can imagine Amish books remind you of your grandparents. Thanks for writing and sharing your fond memories with me.
Kate
My least favorite is the hot, hot, temps.
Sounds as if you had it with summer, Theresa. Hope your weather cools down soon. Thanks for writing and entering the book giveaway.
Kate
I think the favorite thing about summer is it just seems to be a little more laid back time of year. My least favorite is probably the extreme heat but I do like the sun! Here’s hoping to be one of the winners. Love your books. Thank you for sharing.
Maybe “the living is easy” in the summer, because it’s too hot to do anything else, Anne? Sorry you’re saddled with extreme heat. Wishing you the best of luck in the giveaway!
Kate
I am soooo done with the heat and humidity of summer and I look forward to my favorite time of year. . . “Autumn”.
I am embarrassed to say, I have never read any of your books but I am an avid reader and I would love to win the prize.
Please don’t feel embarrassed, Lor. Millions of people have not read my books and I am always delighted to find a new reader. Especially an avid reader. I named a horse Autumn in my next upcoming book, but you will surely enjoy the rewards of autumn before then. Thanks for visiting my blog and entering the giveaway!
Kate
I love summer, not the humidity in Florida I would prefer somewhere a little cooler – maybe Lancaster PA and maybe try to find relatives…get to know that side of my family. I would love to live on a farm, I know it is a lot of hard work but I always worked hard all my life. Now almost 71 I have slowed down…but I still love summer, rocker on a porch in the evening, early meals before it gets too hot and the slower pace of life.
I have Amish friends who told me about Amish friends of theirs who rent out to English people, Janet. Maybe you could find a way to live on a farm without actually having to work it, because you are right when you say it is extremely hard work. I like the idea of the rocker on the porch in the evening better than getting up early to milk the cows. Although I can and have milked a cow … that’s just a small portion of owning cattle. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
Kate
I love summer. I am definitely a hot weather person…don’t handle the cold well at all. I have read some of your previous books and would be delighted to win a copy of this one. Thanks for the chance.
I’m glad to hear you love summer’s heat, Evangeline. I would be delighted if you won a copy of my book. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
The heat is my least favorite part and where there’s humidity that too…lol
Oops, wrong time of year for you, Sabrina. Sorry if you’re suffering in a heat wave. Good luck in the book giveaway!
Kate
I love being off from school and getting to sleep late.
Ah, no school and sleeping in sound great, Sarah. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
Kate
My favorite part is the fresh produce from my garden and canning for the winter. Thank you for the chance.
Yummy, Lucy. And from your own garden. How wonderful. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
My least favorite part of summer is like most who have responded….THE HEAT, HEAT, HEAT! Whew! I love cultivating honor grown tomatoes in our little garden. We used to love the beach as we live on the Gulf Coast of Texas but we are retired and it a lot of trouble to go, come home and clean us and the car after a walk on the beach. It has lost some of the romance from when we were younger!
Sorry to hear you are inundated with HEAT, Linda. Your tomatoes sound delicious. I love them straight from the garden, room temperature. Yummy. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
I love the summer because I enjoy watching my flowers and garden grow and flourish, although there is quite a bit of watering to be done at times.
I wish I could see your garden, Connie! I shudder to think what our water bill will be. Living in the city, we are charged four times the normal rate during the summer. And in a state where we had a huge excess of waterfall last winter and early spring. Sigh. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
I love summer for the sunny days and longer hours before it gets dark but, I do not love the heat and humidity. I need the A/C to sleep and cook. Don’t know how I did it growing up because we never had A/C or even a fan and I don’t know how the Amish can put up with the heat without a fan or A/C. I also love planting and watching my vegetable garden grow during the summer months. I am really a Fall and Spring person.
I think I fit into your category, Karen. Fall and spring, gentle temperatures, etc. We had no air conditioning in our house until a few years ago, but we do have a huge oak tree that provides us shade. Still, what were we thinking? Now we never have to worry about getting home to find our house a pressure cooker. Not that it gets that hot in Seattle. I’ve often wondered about how the Amish manage too. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
Kate
Believe it or not my most favorite and least favorite thing is the same lol haying I love to hay but I hate the heat and stickiness and chaff from the haying. as a farmer summer is my busiest season so I save my reading mostly for evenings and winter these would be a welcome addition
Of course I believe your most favorite and least favorite thing are one and the same, Richard. As a farmer, i understand you don’t have the luxury of taking time off on the hottest days. I save my reading for evenings too. It switches my brain into the land of slumber. Thanks for writing and leaving a comment. Best of luck in the giveaway!
Kate
Thank you for this give away. Love the summer sunshine as my body, mind and senses absorb all the Vitamin D – but, not so happy about no having air conditioning and looking forward to the crisp colorful leaves of fall.
I do love that vitamin D, but also take a supplement, Sharon. Gone are the days of sunbathing for hours … We had no central AC until three years ago (after living here for 30 years, and are loving it now. The window units work well in bedrooms, if you have the right kind of windows. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
Well my least favorite thing about summer is the heat and bugs! I love fall and traveling in the cooler weather.
I can’t blame you for not liking the heat in bugs, Crissy. Wishing you cooler weather and good luck in the giveaway!!
Kate
Thanks for a chance to win one of your books. I don’t care for the real high temps or high humidity of summer, but love all the fresh fruits and vegetables.
Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway, Linda! Good for you for focusing on the fruits and vegetables, the benefits of summer. Love those locally grown organic peaches. Good luck!
Kate
I live in a small coastal town on the Oregon coast so my least favorite thing about Summertime is all the tourists! Noise, traffic & people everywhere.
My favorite part is the warmer, mild weather. And our farmer’s markets! Fresh produce, berries and more.
Thank you for the giveaway chance! I would really love to read this story.
I would love you to win a copy of this book, Trixi, and hope you get a chance to read it soon. There are few more beautiful places than the Oregon coast, but I would have trouble dealing with all the tourists too. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
I do not like the humidity!
I’m not a big fan of humidity either, Kristy. I have enough bad hair days as it is. Thanks for visiting my blog and entering the giveaway!
Kate
I would love to win this book… Looks like a good one..
Thanks, Janice. I’m wishing you good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
My least favorite part of summer is the heat and humidity. Love the fresh veggies and fruits of summer.
Sorry you’re burdened with heat and humidity, Joy. It makes me feel as though I’m walking through bathtub water. I also love fresh veggies and fruit. As much as candy. Well, almost as much as chocolate. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
My least favorite part of the summer is the heat and the humidity. I love the longer sulight that we have. And we have more visitors during the summer such as family and friends.
People wonder if my hair is really that curly, Karen. Humidity plays a role, but I’m not fond of the heat either. And too much humidity equals frizz. Your visiting friends and family sound fun!
Kate
I love summer for the heat and the long hours of daylight. Eating fresh produce from the garden is a bonus. It’s been super dry here this year so a bit more rain would be nice for the garden and grass but it’s nice to be able to attend outdoor weddings and festivals without having to worry about the weather.
There are many bonuses that go along with summer, Arletta. Attending an outdoor wedding is a treat, but around here we always have a backup plan, just in case … If you have a veggie garden, I’m jealous. I love fresh vegetables! Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
We’ve had great summer weather this summer in Ohio. That being said, I’m not a summer person. I love cool(er) weather and LOVE a good rainy day or even a thunderstorm. I’m looking forward to the fall and all the great things it brings here in the Midwest like apple picking, taking the grandkids to pumpkin farms to choose that perfect pumpkin and freshly pressed apple cider!
I’m glad you’re having a great summer in Ohio, Linda! I would also take a little cooler weather and (I hate to even say it) some good long rains that really saturates the earth. I notice in many yards, shrubs are withering because they are simply not getting enough water. Your fall plans with your grandkids sound fun. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
I love summer because of being able to go outside and work on the yard, flower gardens and my pond/fish. I do not like the sudden thunder storms that just pop up.
Oh, you have a fish pond, Nancy Jo? What fun. I am not a big fan of sudden thunderstorms, which can indeed just pop up. Too many close calls with lightning, in NJ and VT, and even in this area which rarely gets it. So far I have never been struck, praise God. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
My favorite thing about summer is when my kids and grandkids all come over to enjoy the swimming pool. I enjoy the laughter, conversations and refreshments.
My least favorite thing about summer is I prefer the fall weather when I can enjoy working in the flowerbeds.
Having your grandkids over to play in the swimming pool sounds about is fun as it gets, Joannah. All too soon, they will be back in school. Cooler weather is just around the corner. I hope. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
I have read your books and as always I could not put them down , I have fallin asleep with them in my hands .
Thanks so much, Kathy! I love to fall asleep with a book in my hands! Good luck in the book giveaway!
Kate
