Am I the only one left who thinks boys and girls are different? In my experience, boys tend to be boys, no matter how much their mothers dislike their converting sticks into weapons or throwing rocks. And girls? Well, they are far more apt to like this little Amish-made doll.
Some might disagree. They could scoff at the fact that as a child I wanted to be like my mother. All nurture versus nature, they’d claim, not knowing that I was a bit of a Tomboy, who wasn’t afraid of spiders and snakes, and still am not. I suppose that could be chalked up to nurturing since my mother was fearless. And feminine. The consummate hostess, who considered my father head of the house.
Hey, wait a minute. Was I really a tomboy? I couldn’t and still can’t throw a ball worth a hoot. And I loved to play dolls with my sister.
In Amish homes, boys’ and girls’ roles are well defined, although there are Amish girls who prefer working in the barn and fields, and Amish men who are fine cooks. Some men even assist with kitchen cleanup. But after a strenuous day of work, most Amish men are gracious enough to allow the wife and daughters to claim that dubious pleasure. I’ve seen girls and women toiling in the field along side the men, especially around harvest time. And boys weeding in vegetable gardens.
Do you think coed bathrooms are perfectly fine? Would you mind your college student showering along side someone of the opposite sex with no privacy, a practice that’s been happening in colleges for years? I could not find one article on the Internet arguing that they’re wrong.
Recently our president installed the first gender-neutral bathroom in the White House.
What do think? Are the differences between boys and girls hardwired and should stay that way? Would you be willing to go to a conference at a college with coed dorm rooms ? Do you think we could learn a few lessons from the Amish?

You lucky thing, Evelin! We have relatives and many friends in Lancaster County. In my opinion we don’t go often enough. My husband loves it too. Thanks for visiting my blog and entering the giveaway!
Kate
I love Amish stories and I love this series. I would love to win this doll. I really admire the Amish and how they are centered around family and their community. I really like how they haven’t altered their religious beliefs for hundreds of years and even though they’ve changed in some ways they have stayed close in how they live their lives for as their ancestors. I’ve grown to really love how they live.
I have a great deal of respect for the Amish too, Jenny! Thanks so much for your comment and for entering the giveaway!
Kate
Would really enjoy reading the book, love to win the doll, thanks God bless.
I would enjoy having you read one of my books, Shirley! And perhaps win the giveaway! Thanks for entering. Good luck!

i am a doll collector, but i dont have any amish dolls. would love to start with this one.
A doll collector without an Amish doll doesn’t sound right, Diane! Thanks for entering to giveaway. Maybe we can change that for you!
Kate
I write Amish for Love Inspired. You know I love your books and need that doll as a constant reminder of your talent as I write. Blessings, Cheryl Williford
I like the way you think, Cheryl! Thanks for entering to giveaway. Blessings and good luck!
Kate
Love the doll . My yet unnamed doll needs a sister to help with the kitchen work . It would be nice if the boys would help in the kitchen since the girls help in the fields at times .
Your doll doesn’t have a name, Mary? Poor little thing … and she needs a sister! I’ll bet the boys help out plenty, starting at milking time if on a farm and scrubbing the kitchen floor when asked. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
Love your blogs, would love to win this doll.
Thanks for your encouraging words, Tabitha! Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate

I would love to have you read one of my books, Angie! It’s high time you did. Thanks for entering the giveaway and good luck!
Kate
Agree. Men can’t bear children & try as we might, women are just not as strong as men. True, men can be nurturers and women can lead etc. But please, folks, do not give up your God given identity. Thanks for entering me into your contest!
Thanks for your great comment, Laurie! I totally agree and am delighted to enter you in the context. Good luck!
Kate
I am an avid Amish book reader. I have never found anything as enjoyable to read than Amish fiction, which I started reading in 2011, during my first of several spinal surgeries. Amish fiction takes me away to a better place. I have never read one of your books; however, I would be interested in reading one or more! I have had my eye on an Amish doll online in a purple dress for several years now, but I would LOVE to have this one pictured here, if I were to win!
Thank you!
I would love to have you win, Suzanne, and also read one of my books! Two in the trilogy were CBA bestsellers and the third has gotten rave reviews. Thanks for visiting my blog and entering the giveaway!
Kate
I love visiting Lancaster County, Penna. I read all the Amish books I can get my hands on & on e-book. I would love to have this adorable doll to sit on my couch. If anyone says Lancaster, I grab my purse. Have even ate of a couple of different Amish homes. Just love their food.
You sound as though you have the same tastes as I do, Eileen! Thanks for leaving a comment and entering the giveaway!
Kate
I would love for Martha to come live at my house! I love reading Amish books. I don’t think I have read any of yours, but will try to get some from the library 🙂
If you haven’t read any of my books I hope you get a chance soon, Catherine! You would be doing me a favor by asking your library to carry The Legacy of Lancaster Trilogy! Or, maybe you will be the winner of this contest. Thanks for entering and good luck!
Kate
I’d love to win this doll & a book from you, I don’t think I’ve read your books before, I love Amish fiction & I’m always looking for new Amish authors to read after, the doll would look so cute in my new granddaughter’s crib! Thanks for having this giveaway!

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment, Cindi! Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
I’d Love to win. If it’s Gods will I will. If not there is a reason why.
That sounds like Amish thinking, Jill! Although even the Amish debate about His will versus our free will, which sometimes is not great. I just read several articles in an Amish publication (Family Life) discussing the subject. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Kate
I only read Amish books and would love to win Martha and the book.
Sounds as if this is the perfect giveaway for you to enter, Sharon! Thanks for visiting my blog and good luck!
Kate
She’s so cute! Would love to win her for my 2 year old Great Neice. Love your books.
Thanks for entering the giveaway, Sandy! How sweet that you have a two-year-old grand niece. I’ll bet she’s darling. I’m delighted that you like my books!
Kate
I enjoy reading your books. Love the doll and the chair she is sitting on!
Thanks so much, Diana! I’m glad you enjoy reading my books. I am very fond of that chair too, although it is getting threadbare. Yet I can’t imagine how I would ever replace the fabric. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
I absolutely believe bathrooms and showers should be separate! This is a lovely doll. I would love to win one of your books. Thamk you.
Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your comment, Carrie, which I happen to agree with! Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
Awesome books. I love everything Amish, and would love to have this doll!!
Thanks so much for leaving a comment and entering the giveaway, Mary Kay!
Kate
I guess you could call me old fashioned, but I support the tradition values and morals. I know I do not flow with society on this issue, but that is fine. I guess in some ways I would fit right fine in an Amish community. I do support male/female well-defined roles. That is really how God intended it and I will always feel that way. However, I do respect the views of others and would not inflict my views on them.
And, winning this lovely doll and one of your books would be a wonderful way to celebrate this glorious day the Lord hath made. Blessings, Kristin J
I would love to have you celebrate God’s glorious day by winning the giveaway, Kristin! I have the feeling the majority of people are old-fashioned when it comes to privacy issues. Thanks and good luck!
Kate
I don’t think that co-ed dorms and bathrooms are right. Even though collage aged children are considered adults, horrible things could happen. I love the Amish doll. If I was to win her, I would give her to my baby daughter, if you still classify 31 as a baby 🙂 She is getting ready to get married again and is a domestic abuse survivor.
I love anything Amish. Have visited several Amish settlements, only wish I lived closer. A little birdie told me your doll would love to live in Colorado. Thanks for the chance.
Bless your daughter for surviving and escaping an abusive situation, Tina. May her next marriage be filled with happiness and contentment. Thanks for leaving your comment and entering the giveaway! 31 sounds like a fabulous age to me!
Kate
Love the doll I have never read your books
If you have never read one of my books I hope you get a chance soon, Teresa! Maybe as winner of this giveaway? Thanks for entering!
Kate
There should be separate bathrooms for men and women at collage. Yes we could learn a thing or two from the Amish. I love to read books about the Amish. I love you as an author. I would love to win the doll; I have a pattern for a crocheted faceless doll. I wish everyone “good luck”.
You are very kind, Janet, and I appreciate your comments! Thank you for entering the giveaway. Happy crocheting!
Kate
I was a ‘Tomboy’ growing up on a farm. We lived much like the Amish do today… wringer washer, no A/C, outhouse, working the fields, etc. I love living amongst all my Amish neighbors today. I’m ‘old school’ maybe…but against co-ed bathrooms, etc. The doll is adorable, and I love reading your books! Thanks for your kind generosity!!
It sounds as though you had a wonderful upbringing, Brenda! And you live amongst the Amish! Thank you for your kind words about my writing. You are the generous one. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
What a precious doll! I would love to win this giveaway.
Not into this co-Ed sharing for showers! No this could lead into some problems. I believe our world needs to step back and realize that although we need to keep progressing…..something’s are better left as is!
Linda Zaragoza-Zrubek
It does make you wonder what the word progress means, doesn’t it, Linda? Progressing in the world of medicine is one thing, but … Thanks for leaving your comment and entering the giveaway!
Kate
I would love to win this . Thanks for the opportunity.
Thanks for visiting my blog and entering the giveaway, Amanda Sue!
Kate
Love your books Kate.
No, I am against coed bathrooms and showers. I think that it is just asking for trouble.
Thanks so much, Cheryl! I appreciate your kind words. About my books, that is. I wonder if there will be a backlash someday as far as these coed bathrooms and showers go. Hope so. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
I would love to have an Amish doll! 🙂
Thanks for entering the giveaway, Karen!
Kate
I love reading about the amish. I have reading your books. Would love to win the doll . The book
Good luck in the giveaway, Linda! Thanks for entering!
I am not against coed bathroom and showers. I love the amish doll would love to win her thanks so much again for the contest to win the amish doll !!!!!
Thanks for leaving a comment and entering the giveaway, Heather! Good luck to you!
I love this little doll! As for the roles of the amish I think if it works why change it? I don’t like to judge people but I love the amish lifestyle. As for the coed bathrooms and dorms I certainly wouldn’t want to be in one. My daughter attended college in a coed dorm but only shared a bathroom with girls. Thank goodness! Thank you again for the chance to win and I love your blog!
Thanks for your comment, Lori! I guess you could say that our son lived in a coed dorm, but the males and females were separated by floors. These days, some dorm rooms are literally co-ed, as in men and women sharing a room. Not an ideal scenario. Good luck in the giveaway!
Kate
I have read these books and they are great….read on kindle so I would love the copies…also would love the doll. Thanks f or a chance to win.
Thanks for entering the giveaway, Barbara! Good luck!
