Dear Readers & Visitors to my blog, I appreciate you! Thanks for stopping by!
Recently, I watched the 1946 movie Great Expectations on TV. I’d read the Charles Dickens novel about ten years ago & was surprised to find I preferred the black-and-white movie. The title got me thinking. This is the time of year of great expectations: must-do lists, shopping for food and presents at chaotic stores without ample parking, trying to second-guess a recipient’s wishes, hurry up and finish cooking or sewing projects. Chances to spend time with family can be both nurturing and draining. Many of us miss loved-ones as we fondly recall the past and attempt to fill the void. Or maybe endeavor to forget heartache, because our expectations weren’t met. Life is not a movie set where the Director can say, “Cut! Reshoot.”
Among the gifts I’ve received from the Amish is the knowledge that wounds and relationships can be healed by forgiveness. Over the years, praying for those who have wronged me or even for strangers has blessed me and others in unexpected ways.
I have a question: What smaller-than-a-breadbox item would you like to receive or give that costs under $20? Leave a short comment and enter to win this Amish-made Quillow, which opens to 40″ X 60″ quilt, & a signed copy of a novel from The Legacy of Lancaster County Trilogy. USA & Canada. Winner chosen at random and has 3 days to respond.

I’m grateful for Vannetta Chapman’s post last week! Thank you to the many people who entered to win a copy of Murder Tightly Knit. Her winner is Diane (no last name given) whom I have contacted via email. She has three days to respond.

Thanks so much for the opportunity to win! The Quillow!!! I would be honored to win! It is such an awesome gift! I would be so blessed to win! I have been very ill lately and I spend a lot of time in the hospital, and I love to read Amish books the most! So, if I could get a new book to read when I am in the hospital, I would be so happy! A book is smaller than a breadbox and you can get one for less than $20, without a problem! I will not be getting any Christmas gifts this year, unfortunately, but I would definitely ask for books, if I were asked! Reading makes us open to new experiences and takes you far away, to another place in time and can take you away from illness, and sometimes just from life in general, and it is wonderful when a book can do that to you!!! I am not a professional, but I think that when a book can do that, it is a truly great book! And your books can do that! God Bless You and Your Family! Have a wonderful, blessed holiday season!
Sorry to hear of your illness, Frances! I’m praying for a complete recovery and that you are blessed in unexpected ways. Thanks for entering the contest!
The item that I would love to receive is an autographed book by any Amish fiction author. The gift that I would give is free.. a big hug!!!

Merry Christmas to you, Sharma! Thanks for entering the giveaway and good luck!
It’s beautiful! My favorite gift to both give and receive are books. I love books! And I love picking out books for others, using the knowledge I have of their likes and dislikes to find that unexpectedly perfect book!
If you can pick out books for others you have great intuition, Kristin! I would love to have someone unexpectedly pick out the perfect book for me. Thanks and good luck!

It’s not original, but books. And homemade plain chocolate fudge. 🙂 can you guess I’ve been craving fudge? Never could make it. It’s more like chocolate soup when I try. 😉
Books and anything chocolate sounds good to me, Ann! Good luck in the giveaway and in your fudge endeavors.
Anything Amish, “country” or handmade…….plain and simple!!
That sounds plain and simply good, Lois! Thanks for entering the giveaway and good luck!
I love to receive anything someone puts the time, talent and thought into making. I also love books, clean, moral romance fiction.
You just reminded me why I enjoy giving away my books, Gail! I’ve put time, thought, and I hope talent into them. Thanks for entering the contest. Good luck!
I would love to win this Quillow. I love Amish books. My mother is a member of a book club and buys Amish books all the time. When she is done with them she passes them down to me and my sisters.
What a great mom you have, Karen! I’d love it if she, you and your sister read one of my books. Hope you can! Thanks for entering the giveaway and good luck!
I prefer giving over receiving. I would buy toys for a child who otherwise would not receive any.
Smaller then a bread box, hum, a potholder or dishcloth. Hope I win.!!
I enjoy giving more than receiving too, Donna, so I can relate. So much fun! Thanks for entering the giveaway. Good luck!
The item that I would love to receive is a pair of “wrap around” earmuffs. I know that this sounds silly. But, I live on a fixed income. There is no “wiggle room” for a lot of extras. I love to walk outside. A month or so ago, I broke my only pair of earmuffs. (I am now relegated to walking inside at the Mall during the cold weather.) So, earmuffs is the item I’d really like!! (Ok… Books, too!!)
Merry Christmas, Kate Lloyd!!
I too want a pair. I have looked high and low and can not find.
Merry Christmas to you, Elaine, and thanks for writing! I love my earmuffs too. I also wear baseball-type caps with ear flaps in the cold weather. Not a fashion statement, but they really do the trick. Good luck in the contest!
A Book 🙂
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you, Michelle! Thanks for visiting my blog and entering the giveaway. Good luck!
Either books or an Amish quilted pillow. This Quillow looks fabulous and I would love to win it. Thanks for the chance.
Thanks so much for entering the giveaway, Debora! Good luck!
I want a pair or wrap around ear muffs. Not the puff ball ones. Oh, and fire wood as we are out of and is only way we heat, but no money to purchase. The Lord always provides.
I would give a Bible, a book, or a pan of fresh baked cinnamon rolls. 😀
I have earmuffs like that, Yvonne, that aren’t puffballs. I’ve looked for another pair for years but can’t find them. Thank you for writing and entering the giveaway. Good luck!
I’m entering to beable to get my daughter something for Christmas.I love reading all the Amish books I can get ahold of at the library.Would so love to win.
I’m happy to hear your library carries Amish books, Jill! Good luck in the giveaway!
I would love a new pair of scissors to use for quilting! I’ve never made a qwillow so it would be wonderful to have one!
A new pair of scissors is always a delight, Dorie! I’m afraid my best scissors were used for wrapping presents and probably have grown dull. How wonderful that you quilt! Thanks for entering the giveaway and good luck!
It took me a while to think of something, to be honest! What I “need” is a small flashlight to read by at night so my husband can sleep without one of the bedroom lights on (my small flashlight just died and I read only at night, so…). Yes, it would be feeding my book habit!
Would love to win the Quillow and one of your books! Thank you for the opportunity. Have a blessed and Merry Christmas!
I keep a small flashlight and a battery operated lantern by the bed, mostly for when the power goes out, Melanie! No matter the time or where I am, I can’t turn my brain off at night without reading first, so I don’t think your book habit is a bad one. Good luck and Merry Christmas to you!
I love anything to do with baking, or reading. I would do a $10 gift card to AAmazon.com and apron in a shoe box. Or a new set of silicone baking accessories. But then again imagine all the books I could buy with a $20 Amazon gift card. I really would love to win, but if I don’t congratulations to the person who does. God Bless. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas and God bless you, Linda! Thank you for your comment. I’m going to have to look up apron in a shoebox. Good luck in the giveaway!
I would love books or yarn.
Wishing for books or yarn tells me a lot about you, LeAnn! All good! Thank you for entering the giveaway and good luck!
An Amish cookbook or an Amish fiction book! Merry Christmas to you!

Fruit flavored tea bags or coffee inside a mug would be my wish!

I would say it would have to be a fruit cake. Because you said smaller than breadbox item…so smaller than bread…and what is more privilent at this time of year, although no one eats it…..LOL….I would love to add the pillow to my Amish collection of stuff……Thank you for the opportunity and Merry Christmas~~
Well, now I’m wondering if you received any fruitcake, Sue! Hope so. Thanks so much for entering the contest and Merry Christmas to you!
I’d like to receive a variety of gift cards that I can use through out the year.
I hope you received a gift card, Annette! And I’m wishing you the very best in this giveaway!
Book, recipe cards that already have recipes on them. A picture of nature showing God’s awesome art work. I love pictures of nature, oceans, mountains, water falls and children & animals.
Recipe cards that already have the recipes written on them … great idea, Pat! A reader can never have too many books. At least this one can’t. I imagine the walls of your home are adorned with pictures showing God’s awesome work. Good luck in the contest!
