Hurray, I found my favorite blue earrings! Again. After searching for them for months, I gave up and bought another pair, thanks to a gift certificate from our younger son. I bought the new pair over the phone after seeing a photo of them, and wouldn’t you know it? Almost immediately I found my formerly favorites right where I’d hidden them—I assume from thieves who might break in. I’d remunerated and retraced my steps so many times. Then suddenly—poof—I recalled where I’d stashed them, in the bottom of a hanging zippered bag in my closet.
My beautiful sparkly new earrings arrived and were different enough I decided I must have them both. I now owned a new pair of favorite earrings. But had I learned my lesson? Apparently not, because a few weeks ago I realized I couldn’t locate either pair. To complicate matters, our son was coming home for a visit and I wanted to show him what he’d given me!
I figured I’d hidden them in the same spot, but not true. So I searched what I thought was every possible location. Under socks, inside storage boxes … I kept asking myself how I could be so dumb. Our son never did get to see them during his visit.
Good news! I located them both, nestled together having fun without me, in my shoe rack. I made a mental promise to not hide things from myself again. But can I keep it? Have you ever done something like this? Do you have a secret hiding place? (Don’t tell us where!)
I found this lovely Amish-made potholder in our sewing room. Had I meant to keep it for myself? No matter, I’m offering the potholder plus a signed copy of one book from the Legacy of Lancaster Trilogy: Your choice of Leaving Lancaster, Pennsylvania Patchwork, or Forever Amish!

Thanks, Rachel! Good luck in the giveaway!
I always put thing where I’ll find them, then when i want them i don’t remember where they are. with me it’s old age i guess. lol
I refuse to blame my problem on old age, Pat! Or is that a symptom of senility? Nah, I think my thoughts are scattered in 100 places instead of keeping focused. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
Thank you for the wonderful giveaway! I love the potholder. I always find things after I can’t find them. I have read Leaving Lancaster and loved it. Winning Pennsylvania Patchwork would be great. ~ Blessings ~

Wow that is a wonderful find. I am always losing stuff.
I remember when our son left his jacket at a soccer game and not being angry in the slightest, Kristina! So, why am I so hard on myself when it appears I’m not alone? Thanks for entering the giveaway!
I have bought things before because I couldn’t find something – just to find it as soon as I did! Trust me- you aren’t alone! Thanks for the chance to win this beautiful potholder and one of your great books!

O my Kate do it all the time. I think I put it up and I guess I do it to well. You are not alone!!! Love the potholder beautiful and my favorite color. O I call it my sometimers kicking in. LOL
Blessings
Diana
Thanks her writing, Diana! I’ve heard once that the reason people forget other people’s names is because they’re not really paying attention rather than embedding the image of the person and name in their mind. I’ll try to do that next time when putting things away … Good luck in the giveaway!
I am always putting things “in a safe place”. I have 4 small children, so I have to get creative! Problem is, I often forget where that safe place is, and then can not find the thing I’m looking for. Latest example – My husband was looking for a memory card that had been floating around the house for years. Every time I came across it, I put it somewhere new. All of a sudden, he needed it. Like, NEEDED it, and we couldn’t find it ANYWHERE!!! I just came across it last week zipped inside a game case in the bottom drawer of a scrap bin, because that makes complete sense.
Wow, that was a creative hiding place, Kritsin! I remember as a child my father paid me to find a key and I did. Maybe next time I lose something I’ll ask my grandkids to look for it. Good luck in the giveaway! I will not lose the potholder between now and Monday!
Whenever an item goes missing in my home, I look for something else and usually find the first thing that I’ve mis-placed. Of course that means that something is always lost in my home. St. Anthony has also helped me to find important things that have gone missing. Now, if only I could find my train of thoughts, but it seems to have left the station lol.
I hadn’t thought of that, Carol. Good idea. I wonder where that train station is. If you find it let me know. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Would love to win this and give to my daughter!
Thanks for leaving a comment and entering the giveaway, Connie! Good luck!
Yes. I have done the same thing! I have put a precious piece of jewelry, mine was actually in a shoe in the bottom of my closet, safe from thieves, but lost for the moment from me too!!! I hope that I win the book and potholder! But I wish Good Luck to everyone and God Bless You all!!!
Since I also checked the toes of my shoes, I wonder if burglars do too, Frances! Let’s hope not. I’m so glad you found your piece of jewelry. Maybe some of my other so-called missing items will show up. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway! And I gratefully accept your blessings.
I too have hid or put something up until i needed it and then forgot where I put it,. A few days ago my hubby needed his steel toe work boots for work. He hadn’t needed them in a long time so I had put them up and I searched and searched and was becoming desperate as he had to have them the next day. I begin to pray and ask the Lord to help me remember where I had put them and it came to my mind and I had put them in our building in a box where I have my Christmas things are stored. Thank you for the opportunity to win.
A good strategy, Sharma! I’d been praying about these earrings but apparently wasn’t supposed to find them until I did. Each Christmas, I wonder what we’ll find among our decorations. Thanks for entering the giveaway!
Hi Kate! I lose things all the time! I try and keep my stuff in the same place as much as I can, but that doesn’t always work out! But I usually manage to find most of it anyway.
That gives me hope, Mallory! There are a few more items I’d love to eventually find. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
I love homemade items made by the Amish and the pot holder would be a great addition to my home.
Good luck in the giveaway, Crystal! Thanks for leaving a comment.
Love your books !
Thanks for leaving a comment and entering the giveaway, Deanna!
I am always losing things, especially earrings. Now I just don’t by expensive ones for that very reason. I do have a jewelry organizer someone gave me–sort of a hanging bag with compartments. I guess I will have to start using that! Blessings to you!
Mary
In spite of all the earrings I own, I seem to gravitate toward only a few, Mary. One pair was very inexpensive; I don’t hide them so they never get lost. Your jewelry organizer sounds terrific. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
I too have a habit of misplacing things 🙂 Happens more than I like to admit. Love the potholder — such pretty colors. Thank you for another wonderful giveaway.
Thanks for writing, Mary! Misplacing items happens more than I care to admit too. Am I daydreaming or thinking about my writing? A great excuse … Good luck in the giveaway!
I bought our sons each Christmas present, similar but different key rings. I ordered them several months before Christmas and when it came time to wrap those two items I couldn’t find them anywhere. Two moves later and about 5 yrs later, we were unpacking and there they were in a box. At the time I hid them we weren’t planning on moving. Still don’t know where I hid them 5 yrs previously. The boys wouldn’t let me wait until Christmas for the gifts to go into their stockings on the mantle. Can you believe they had to have them right then? They are grown now & still tease me about waiting almost 5 years for their gift.
The pot holder is beautiful. For anyone that hasn’t read your books – Kate is a terrific author. You may find yourself needing a “hanky” (as my grandmother called them), grinning enough to hurt the corners of your mouth, are just don’t want to put the book down-so you keep reading & let other things slide.
Thanks for your lovely words about my writing, Pat! I will not forget those. Too funny about your sons’ missing gifts. I’d say they have a wonderful mother even if they did have to wait. Good luck in the giveaway!
My mother used to hid presents she would buy early for Christmas and forget about them. She would find them months later and give them to us. I never could understand how she could lose something like that until I became older and a mother myself. I find myself putting things in a special “safe” place and then forgetting where I put them. It is so funny that most of say we will never be like our mothers and then suddenly realize that we are just like them. Would love to win your new book and potholder. I love anything Amish and love reading novels about the Amish. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for writing, Charlene! My mother did the exact same thing. Since my birthday is in July, those lost and found Christmas presents eventually found a home. Good luck in the giveaway!
I lose so much stuff, it seems that things have legs and move themselves! Love the colors of that pot holder, so pretty. Just got finished reading Forever Amish, enjoyed it so much!
Thanks for letting me know how much you enjoyed Forever Amish, Tracie! Your description of things having legs made me smile. I put a key rack in our kitchen cupboard, so at least I don’t lose my keys. Not yet, anyway. Good luck in the giveaway!
Would love to win anything from you.
Thanks for entering the giveaway, Bonnie! Good luck!
After several moves I realized I couldn’t find my high school diploma or my husbands. I looked everywhere driving myself crazy. I never found them. Luckily my sister in law was moving into the family home and while climbing in the attic came across a box of “stuff”. It belonged to me and my husband so she sent it to is and lo and behold in the bottom of the box was our diplomas! We have moved numerous times and we thought we had grabbed all of the boxes we had stored in the attic of the family home. They’re stored in a fireproof box now in my home these days!
How marvelous, Janet! A true-to-life found something in the attic story with a happy ending. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
Boy!! I feel so much better that I am not the only person who could not find an item that I had put away for “safe keeping”. So glad that you found “both” pairs. Now, hopefully, you won’t have to go hunting earrrings again.
Have a great day!!
I’ve been leaving my earrings out in the open, Elaine, and feeling nervous about it. I feel so much better learning how many other people hide things for “safekeeping.” Thanks for writing and I hope you have a great day too!
glad you found them both. i still have things I have put away and still haven’t found them! love your books.keep up the good work!
Well, I have a few other missing items too, Harold! Thanks so much for your kind words about my books. I appreciate the encouragement!

I too put things where no one will find them, however it’s usually me that can’t find them. Oh and when I do it’s never when I need it. You are not alone on this Kate. The potholder is beautiful it would be a nice addition to my daughters hope chest. Best of luck to everyone.
Thanks for letting me know I’m not alone, Joannah! I wonder what I’d uncover if we ever moved. Oh, your daughter has a hope chest? Best of luck to you!
I am so bad to put things up and forget where I put them. Some times it takes weeks to find them. The pot holder is beautiful!
Kathy, if you figure out a remedy please let me know! Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
I think I’m being so careful by hiding valuables in places no one will look. But, like you, they are places I don’t think to look. Maybe I need to find a place that is in plain site but is where no one will look. (Like the purloined letter.)
If you find that spot, please let me know, Paulette! We have an alarm system in our house and i use it often. Years ago, one of my neighbors was robbed while she was out in her garden! But I know it’s not just in the city. Still, I was without my blue earrings too long! Thanks for entering the giveaway!
I try to NEVER put something in a safe place. It’ll be so safe no one will ever see it again. 🙂
You are so right, Ann! Only a burglar could find my valuables when I hide them. Our fire alarm went off once years ago while we were on vacation. It took our neighbor, a fire captain, three minutes to find our carefully hidden key. He commented that he found hidden keys all the time. Thanks for writing and entering the giveaway!
I have done the very same thing as well. Still do.. Lol I have been thinking about getting me one of those big heavy fire safes to put my valuables in. That way I know where they are and if a thief tries to get the safe, it wouldn’t be very easy for them cause they are very heavy. I really think they would leave it setting where it’s at. The potholder is very pretty! Best of luck with finding a permanent place for your valuables, so you know where they are at.
Thanks for writing, Paula! Hmm, then you’d have to remember the combination to the safe. Good luck in the giveaway!
i love your books.i also hide things and can’t find them
Thanks for the lovely compliment, Debbie! I’m delighted you enjoy my books. Good luck in the giveaway!
