Cooking early to avoid the midday and afternoon heat made me think about my dear father-in-law who recounted stories of working as a preteen helping prepare food for the workers on a nearby farm in South Dakota. Later in the day he’d attach tumbleweeds to his handlebars while riding his bicycle on the way home after a hard day’s work. Using tumbleweeds as sails is something never seen where I live!

When I think of our sons, I recall time spent in the lake and running through a sprinkler in the front yard! Ah, fond memories that don’t include the words scorching or relentless.
