Am I the only one left who thinks boys and girls are different? In my experience, boys tend to be boys, no matter how much their mothers dislike their converting sticks into weapons or throwing rocks. And girls? Well, they are far more apt to like this little Amish-made doll.
Some might disagree. They could scoff at the fact that as a child I wanted to be like my mother. All nurture versus nature, they’d claim, not knowing that I was a bit of a Tomboy, who wasn’t afraid of spiders and snakes, and still am not. I suppose that could be chalked up to nurturing since my mother was fearless. And feminine. The consummate hostess, who considered my father head of the house.
Hey, wait a minute. Was I really a tomboy? I couldn’t and still can’t throw a ball worth a hoot. And I loved to play dolls with my sister.
In Amish homes, boys’ and girls’ roles are well defined, although there are Amish girls who prefer working in the barn and fields, and Amish men who are fine cooks. Some men even assist with kitchen cleanup. But after a strenuous day of work, most Amish men are gracious enough to allow the wife and daughters to claim that dubious pleasure. I’ve seen girls and women toiling in the field along side the men, especially around harvest time. And boys weeding in vegetable gardens.
Do you think coed bathrooms are perfectly fine? Would you mind your college student showering along side someone of the opposite sex with no privacy, a practice that’s been happening in colleges for years? I could not find one article on the Internet arguing that they’re wrong.
Recently our president installed the first gender-neutral bathroom in the White House.
What do think? Are the differences between boys and girls hardwired and should stay that way? Would you be willing to go to a conference at a college with coed dorm rooms ? Do you think we could learn a few lessons from the Amish?

Simply stated…God made us different for a reason, who are we to argue with that. Thanks for sharing with us Kate!
I am a great defender of the Amish! I too love the Amish way of life, and I would live to win Martha!
Thanks for leaving a comment and entering the giveaway, Marlene! Good luck!

I was taught the old fashioned way. I don’t agree with coed dorms. Too much hanky panky goes on at college anyway. Why encourage it?! Thanks for providing the opportunity to win the adorable Amish doll. My daughter would love it.
So true, Robin! Young adults are already tempted enough via the Internet and movies. Thanks for leaving your comment and good luck!
Kate
I think there are some inherent differences in boys and girls. I don’t think I’d like coed dorms. It’s one thing to be coed in your family but different with strangers. To me anyway.
I’d love to win this doll. My mom, Martha, loved dolls. And my gdau that I would give it to is named Ava Martha. 🙂
To me, also, Ann! Thanks for laving your comment and for entering the giveaway!

I enjoy your books I have several. I believe the Amish are better at families and what gender roles are. We live close to them and visit their area at least twice a month ( my husband loves the food haha). I would like this doll for my granddaughter. We respect their views and lifestyle, although not perfect but really who is besides Jesus.
You are so right, Janice! None of us is perfect other than Jesus. Thanks for your comment and for entering the giveaway!

I think women and children need their own bathrooms in order to stay safe. Men know if someone sees them go into a women’s restroom the police will be called a.s.a.p and others will join in to remove the man in order to keep the woman and/or child safe. So no its not right to start allowing men to just walk in on women using the restroom and most of all its not safe. The doll is wonderful but I commented because the issue is very important and needs to be addressed before its to late to stop what shouldn’t have ever been an issue. The end of time really is here because this world is getting sicker by the day.
Thank you for your intelligent and insightful comment, Katherine. Women and children have a hard enough time staying safe. It is a very important issue. Good luck in the giveaway!

I am very much opposed to coed dorms and coed bathrooms. It doesn’t matter if you have more girly interests or more boyish interests. You have either a girl’s or a guy’s body and deserve to have all the privacy you want. Or in the case of college kids, all the privacy that you’re not yet mature enough to know that you need. Once I cut through the basement of my son’s college dorm. (We were moving his things out at the end of the school year.) As we passed the laundry area, there stood a girl wrapped in a towel, presumably naked underneath, doing her laundry. I could only imagine several troubling scenarios that would destroy her life or the life of the guy she chose to accuse.
You’ve made some excellent points, Roberta! A parent sends his or her child to college to be in a safe environment and to be educated in biology by qualified professors. Thanks for entering the giveaway!

Hi again. First I like your truck…would love to win the doll and book. Amish books are my favorite read.
I guess I still come from the old school because I think girls and boys should have separate showers, toilets and rooms in college. I even feel the younger children should not share bathroom. I think there are enough problems in this world today with morals and children not being taught. Why push them together to create more. I was never a tomboy. Had my dolls and girlie things. Grew up with three brothers and one sister. Hope I win the book and doll. She is so sweet
The truck’s not mine, but it sure is cute, Judy. Saw it at a plant nursery. Yes, we have enough problems without putting teens into tempting and embarrassing situations. Good luck in the giveaway!

Kate, your books are great! I love it when my husband helps in the house! Can’t say I’m too great helping with outside chores, but I help some! Lately I’ve been busy watching my grandchildren play baseball and softball. My granddaughter Lilly is a lil tomboy and one good baseball player. Good at softball too but I like watching her play among the boys game more! I’m
Ive been wanting an Amish doll!!
Thank you, Lisa! Watching kids’ baseball games is terrific! Our grandson started this year. His coaches were kind and encouraging. Not always that way. Good out-of-doors fun! Thanks for entering the giveaway!

Some may say I am old fashioned, but I don’t care.I will stick with my way of thinking.I don’t believe in girls and boys sharing bathrooms in dorms or anywhere for that matter.I believe God would want us to keep our body private. Now when you go out to Wal-Mart or anywhere you can see half naked girls (young and old).I would not want my daughter to share a shower with a guy.I love the amish doll you are giving away Kate.
You stay that way, Jackie! If that’s being old fashioned, may there be a huge back-lash to the past! Thanks for your comment and entering the giveaway!
Kate
I do not think Coed dorms is ok. That is just temptation for the young folks. Sharma Darby
I agree with you, Sharma! Leadeth yourself and your children not into temptation! Thanks for commenting and entering the giveaway!

I respect the Amish very much as they respect the ways of our Lord. We might have our difference, but when it comes to the heart we are have so much in common. You are right in your blog, as we should not bend the rules to please others. May the Lord bless you always. Blessings
May the Lord bless you too, Diane! Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment.
